As a gold medalist with profound vision loss, she will lead advocacy efforts for people with glaucoma that are designed to empower patients to participate actively in their glaucoma treatment journey
Eyecbetter has announced the appointment of Amy Dixon, PLY, as the company’s new Director of Patient Advocacy.
Amy Dixon is a Tokyo 2020 Paralympian in the sport of triathlon. She is an 8-Time World Cup Gold Medalist, 4-time Cycling and Triathlon National Champion and the reigning ITU Aquathlon World Champion.
Because of her personal experience with vision loss, she has a “deep understanding of the needs that people with visual disabilities face within healthcare,” said the company in a press release.
“As a uveitis and glaucoma patient myself, it has been my dream to help those people discovered to have eye disease from the initial moment of their diagnosis,” said Dixon.
Eyecbetter stated that Dixon’s role will be to “lead advocacy efforts for people with glaucoma that are designed to empower patients to participate actively in their glaucoma treatment journey. She will represent the voice of the glaucoma patient to ensure that the eyecbetter digital glaucoma management program provides solutions that best meet a patient’s needs and preserve a lifetime of vision. “
Joel Solano, MD, founder and CEO of eyecbetter stated, “when developing our remote patient monitoring platform for glaucoma, it was imperative to build our program from the patient’s perspective, and to ensure that all the unique challenges and needs that glaucoma can present were addressed. We knew that Amy Dixon would be the perfect person to ensure that our digital glaucoma offerings are designed to empower people with glaucoma to preserve their vision and focus on being an active participant in their lifelong treatment journey.”
Dixon continued in the press release on her ambitions while in the position.
“As a person still in the workforce, I strongly believe in the importance of education regarding vocation and how disease affects people’s daily lives. I want everyone to feel seen, supported and cared for. To know that there’s a vast community out there and that we are their partners on this journey.”
Eyecbetter is a MedTech company aiming to make glaucoma management more effective and accessible by providing ongoing digital care between clinic visits. The company states it combines a “breakthrough wearable tonometer with digital technology and connected patient care” to “transform the practice of glaucoma care.” The company aims to provide the right information, tools and support to empower those living with glaucoma to live better lives and improve their health all while reducing the cost of care.
